2011 Porsche Cayman R |
Top Gear Co-Host James May loved the Porsche Boxster Spyder, even though Clarkson and Hammond hated it. I'm not fond of the Boxster Spyder either. It might be fast and composed while running on the track, but the car has no door handles, no stereo, and a tent on the top of it. So, Porsche decided to make a more reasonably hard-hitting exotic, thus bringing this at the LA Auto Show: the Porsche Cayman R. It's just like the Boxster Spyder only a little bit more sensible. First off, no tent on the top, because its a Cayman. Second, its faster. The Cayman R has 10 more horsepower than its tent-top double (330 horsepower), its lighter than the Cayman S, and a lot faster. 0 to 60 is now reached in 4.7 seconds with a new top speed of 174 MPH. But, that's about it. There's an airbag and nothing else. No stereo, no door handles, no plastic covering, no nothing. What's even more idiotic is the price of all this: $66,300. That's over $5000 more than the standard Cayman S. In the event of paying more, you still get less. Kinda ridiculous, don't you think?
