A Knight in Supercharged Glory

2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1
Well, the ZL1 is here. It has taken the spot as King of Camaros, but it seems that there's one more in the line that we haven't seen or heard about: the Z-28. Now, you may be thinking, "Wait a second. The ZL1 is here. This car was destined to be king." It was, and is, but GM doesn't want any Z-28 fans to lose hope about the car. So, what do we know? We know that this car, the ZL1, is at the top of the line in the Camaro model range. There won't be any model with more power or more speed than this one. So, this means that the Z-28 just might be in-between the mighty ZL1 and the noble SS. So expect a car with more than 430 horsepower. The ZL1 might be the king, but that makes the Z-28 the knight.

The King is Coming

2012 Chevy Camaro Z-28 (Courtesy of WorldOfCarFans)
Even more good news, this time from GM! It seems that they are bringing two new Chevys to the Chicago Auto Show this Friday. One of them GM says is based off the Camaro platform, which could mean that King Camaro, the Z-28, could be finally unveiled this week. I wasn't given much else about the other model, but GM told me to expect something fun. Anyway, the Z-28 will have the 6.2-liter LSA Supercharged 556 horsepower V8 engine from the Cadillac CTS-V. 0 to 60 is speculated in less than 4 seconds and will hit top speeds of over 200 MPH. The production of King Camaro will start the first day of the new year: January 1, 2012. So, will this car finally take its place on its throne as King of Camaros? We'll have to wait and see.

The New King of the Top Gear Track

2011 Ariel Atom 500
And this is it. Setting a record time of 1:15.1, thrashing the 1:16.8 set by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the Ariel Atom 500 is now the new king of the Top Gear Test Track. It features an Ariel-built 3.0-liter Supercharged 500 horsepower V8 engine. 0 to 60 MPH is done in 2.5 seconds. Flat out, it will do over 200 MPH. Now, you might imagine that since this car originally had no mirrors or windshields, it would tear your face off, like it did Jeremy's. But, Ariel had kindly put one in so that your face will stay in tact at 200 MPH. What's also very interesting is that Clarkson did not test this car. In fact, this superbike-fast car was tested by the slowest man on earth, and we all know who that is. Also, you may have heard that the last STIG was sacked for writing his own book. Well, it turns out that Top Gear has retrieved a new STIG. We don't know who he is, but who is isn't is Tiff Needell. Anyway, watch the new King of the Top Gear Test Track race its way round with James May & New STIG behind the wheel.

A New Year for a New Camaro

2012 Chevy Camaro Z28 Rendered (Courtesy of Jinx Design)
Most Camaro fans, me too actually, are now waiting for the arrival of King Camaro, the Z28. Rumor has it that the car will have as much as 560 horsepower from a Supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine and will hit top speeds of over 200 MPH. So far, we've only seen spy shots and renderings of the car, but Chevy themselves have recently confirmed that King Camaro will enter production New Year's day of next year. So, unfortunately, we have about 351 days to wait for King Camaro to come out, but it will be a worth while wait. Between that time, Chevy plans to unveil the model and even do some burnouts in it for your entertainment.

Saving the World, One Supercharger at a Time

2010 Jaguar XFR
If you watch Top Gear, you will know that they don't suggest you buy anything with a Toyota or a Prius or a Hybrid on it. But, right there, there's a problem. Most of the cars that they test are massive V8 to W16 monsters with 3 to 15 MPG ratings and over 300 CO2's developed per kilometer, making them terrible for the environment. So, what do they do? Improvise! Mr. headman himself, Jeremy Clarkson, thought it would be best to insert some biology and chemistry into the mix and try to make this Jaguar XFR the greenest sports saloon in the world. Although his ideas are a bit brash, he does end up with something reasonable. Take a look at the video below to see what on earth he thought about.

Rally Ready Rover

2011 Bowler Nemesis EXR
To date, we've seen the Land Rover Range Rover Sport as a sporty, luxurious SUV. However, it didn't turn out that way when Bowler got through with it. What you are looking at is a hardcore version of a Range Rover Sport Supercharged: the Bowler Nemesis EXR. Designed specifically for Dakar rally racing, this truck is road legal and can survive pretty much any terrain. The 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 engine has been upgraded from 510 horsepower to 600. Since it's lighter thanks to its two-seater arrangement and carbon fiber materials, 0 to 60 is now done in 4.2 seconds instead of 5.6 seconds. The top speed of this thing: 156 MPH. This speed is not only achievable on road. It is achievable anywhere: water, grass, mud, gravel, snow, you name it. This is probably the toughest Range Rover ever built, and Richard Hammond had a go in it in a special episode of Top Gear. Check it out below.

CTS-V Ad Frenzy!

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe
If you were watching the Rose Bowl on Saturday, you would've noticed a couple of ads about two very special Caddies. They both have been hailed as the best the brand could make and they both have the same 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 engine. If you haven't guessed it by now, you weren't really watching the Rose Bowl on Saturday. But, nevertheless, Cadillac released two new ads displaying the CTS-V Sedan and Coupe in all their splendor. If you haven't seen them or want to see them again, check them out below.

The Camaro Line Continues

2012 Chevy Camaro Z-28 (Courtesy of LeftLaneNews)
What you are looking at is the combination of hardcore muscle and European engineering. This is a rendered shot of the upcoming 2012 Chevy Camaro Z-28, done by Jon Sibal. Now, it may not look like this, but trust me when I say that it will look this aggressive. Under the hood will be the same engine used in the fastest production sedan in the world, the Cadillac CTS-V: a 6.2-liter Supercharged LSA V8 producing 556 horsepower. Chevy is determined that this Camaro will do 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds and hit over 200 MPH. Let's see if they can achieve that. Look for this car in the showrooms next year.

Mugen Power

2011 Ariel Atom Mugen Special Edition
Many of you know about a car known as the Ariel Atom. It's the only car to go toe-to-toe with a Bugatti Veyron on a windy racetrack. Well, this year, they're turning 10 years old, and to celebrate, they've collaborated with Mugen, a Honda Performance branch, and developed this Tuner-Styled Atom. Now, Honda helped with the production of the Atom. In fact, the engine of this car was taken from a Honda Civic Type R and Supercharged. So, with Mugen running the performance bit, they helped increase the Atom's power from 245 to 270 horsepower. Since it's so lightweight, it will do 0 to 60 in less than 3.5 seconds. Pretty quick, huh? This car is coming and going quickly as well. They're only making 10 of these so reserve yours today!
