BMW's new F10 M5 is almost here and there are a lot of people who can't wait for it. But, when it comes out later this year, and you think you can't afford it, BMW will have an alternative 5-series that you can enjoy. They call it the Alpina B5 BiTurbo and although it might not have as much power as the new M5, it's just as good. The 4.4-liter Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine produces 500 horsepower. 0 to 60 is done in just 4.8 seconds on its way to a limited top speed of 186 MPH. This sounds like a good car, right? But, what if you need something like this that will carry a months supply of groceries? Well, BMW has thought of that as well.
2012 BMW Alpina B5 BiTurbo Touring
This is the B5 BiTurbo Touring. It has all the same statistics and features that the regular saloon has, except this has 5-doors and large trunk space. Unfortunately, to own this Über Wagon or the saloon, you'll have to have a big wallet and a house in Europe. BMW never planned to release the Alpina B5 over here in the U.S. But, do not despair. The Alpina brand does exist in America, in the body of a 7-series.
2011 BMW Alpina B7 BiTurbo
This executive sedan is for the man who wants his own "M7". It has the same engine as the B5, only with more luxury, better looks, more speed, and all-wheel drive. But, if you love the 5-series, the good 'ol M5 will be out soon, and that's more powerful and faster than the B5, so everyone's happy.
Here it is, everyone! The sick C-Class loses its two rear doors and is now more sporty than ever. Introducing the C-Class coupe. It shares the same face, rear lights, and front interior of the regular sedan, but everything past the front seats have changed. There is now one less seat in the back. The body is more curved for aerodynamic purposes. Other than that, this is still a C-Class. The base engine is now a turbo-4 with 201 horsepower. All the engines and features will be carried over from the sedan, except for one model that will have Mercedes' new 5.5-liter Twin-Turbocharged 563 horsepower V8 engine: the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series. Europe already has a C-Class coupe, but they named it the CLC and it's much smaller and looks more like a VW Golf. This one is coming to America and looks more aggressive. Honestly, I'm spending more time playing this game on my phone then playing Need For Speed; it's that good. Now, I've moved up in the Real Racing world and have bought this awesome british supercar from McLaren. Debuting this year, the MP4-12C was built to compete with the lightweight heavy-hitters from Lamborghini and Ferrari. Under the hood is a McLaren built 3.8-liter Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine producing 592 horsepower. 0 to 60 is reached in 3.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 206 MPH. And, since its lightweight, expect it to be very good in the corners. In this game however, it out corners most Race Cars. Then again, this all is somewhat fictional. I've been having fun driving it. 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports (Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit)
Bentley is a very interesting car company. What they do is prove that old people still have the ability to be agile. Why do I say this? Unless you're Mark Zuckerberg, Ryan Seacrest, Rick Ross, or Wiz Khalifa, Bentleys are best owned by the rich, and most rich people are over 50 years of age. If you're in that age range, you may find some Bentleys rather favorable.
2010 Bentley Brooklands
Take the Bentley Brooklands for example. It might have ended its run a few months ago (limited to 550 units), but there are some used models still around with prices starting at $209,995 (based off of duPont REGISTRY). So, if you have that much money, love British luxury, are a successful businessman, and you're old, this car is for you. It contains all the luxury and detail that you can get in a Rolls-Royce Phantom, which is about $300,000 more than this. The seats are like the leather ones taken from the Queen of England's Bedroom. The center console is filled with gadgets and gizmos, but is easily understandable by anyone. The finish is done in walnut with some chrome attachments. So, this car is a Rolls-Royce Phantom with two less doors. However, the most interesting part about this Bentley, which is what makes this car rather ridiculous, is that it has a sport button. Why on earth would it have a sport button? I guess Bentley put it in to make old people excited again when they use it. And it's not like they're not going to use it. This car has a 6.7-liter Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine producing 530 horsepower. 0 to 60 is reached in 5.3 seconds, but this car will reach a top speed of 184 MPH. That's insanely fast for a car that weighs just about 3 tons (5853 lbs.), almost as much as my Range Rover. If they do use the sport button in this car, they're gonna have to be careful though. There is a slight chance they will shred their rear tires, like Jeremy Clarkson does in this video.
2010 Bentley Continental Supersports (Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit)
How about the Continental Supersports? It's much sportier and smaller than the Brooklands. It has all-wheel drive so it's much more composed in sport mode than the Brooklands. It has loads of more power (627 horsepower) than the Brooklands so it's faster (204 MPH). Isn't this car better? Yes and no. What this car is is Bentley's attempt to create a Porsche 911 GT3 RS; a purebred track day racer. They did manage to pull it off, but a track racer needs to be lightweight so that it can handle corners at high speeds and take turns on a dime. This car weighs 2.5 tons and feels very heavy to drive. They did manage to take out the rear seats, but they still left the luxury of a Bentley. The seats are leather ones similar to that of the Duke of Westminster's Smoking Jacket. The center console is carbon fiber, but with some chrome finishes in between them. So, this really isn't a track-ready race car. It's more of a track-ready ocean-liner. You can try to go drifting with it, but it's all-wheel drive and traction control systems won't help the drifting that much. If you do drift though, be careful. Like the Brooklands, you could shred the rear tires, as Jeremy, once again, does in this video.
So, in conclusion, Bentley has tried to liven up old souls with their luxurious big cars. But honestly, coming from me, some of them are just bonkers.
Remember how I said Gemballa builds the best custom Porsches? This is proof. Take a look at this awesome custom Cayenne that they've just unveiled. The original one looked a little daft. This one actually looks superb. Not only that. It's crazy! It's still a work in progress, but Gemballa has told me that this SUV will produce as much as 670 horsepower from it's customized Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine. We don't know how fast it goes though, but with that much horsepower, expect it to go very fast. Save up, because Gemballa's only making 30 of these to celebrate the company's 30th Anniversary.
