2011 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento |
Earlier this week, the last Lamborghini Murcielago rolled off the assembly line in Italy. This car has become one of the supercar greats. It's engine, a 6.0-liter V12 engine was so powerful and so harmonic. That engine's been around since the classic Lamborghini Miura. Do not despair. A new V12 will be mounted into the Murcielago's Replacement and, some sources say, its much bigger and more powerful. While thinking of ideas to replace the Murcielago at the Lamborghini skunkworks, they stumbled upon this: the Sesto Elemento (Sixth Element). Lamborghini says this car will showcase the future of their company. Inside and out, this car is purely Carbon Fiber with some lightweight plastics. It just weighs 2,202 lbs., about 1 ton. It borrows the engine from their lightweight Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera: a 5.2-liter 570 horsepower V10. But, thanks to its lightness, its much faster. They say that car will reach 60 MPH from 0 MPH in 2.5 seconds and will go on to a staggering top speed of 220 MPH. This car was introduced as a concept model during the Paris Auto Show. Now, recent word has come out that Lamborghini will run this car in a very limited production (7 to 10 units), each unit costing about $3 million. But, not to worry. The new Murcielago replacement is rumored to be introduced early next year.
