2011 Audi R18 LMP1 |
Audi's no longer playing games with the Le Mans series. Today, they've pulled off the covers to reveal their new track screamer, the R18 LMP1. Unlike it's predecessors, the R15, R10, and R8, this one has a full closed hard top for more aerodynamics. It's also adopted some F1 styling with a massive fin placed in between the cockpit and the rear wing. This carbon fiber malarky now holds a 3.7-liter TDI V6 engine, but Audi has yet to reveal how much horsepower this Turbodiesel engine will produce. It's also very strange. Because it's predecessors had much bigger engines. For example, the previous R15 TDI had a twin-turbodiesel V10. The R10 used an upgraded Twin-Turbodiesel V12 that you get in the ridiculous Q7 V12 TDI. The R8 used a V8 engine. So, who knows what purpose Audi has in putting a V6 into their new Le Mans Prototype. Engine or not, I think this car looks mean and ready to thrash numbers at Circuit de la Sarthe. This car will send shock vibes to Pescarlo and Peugeot in the next Le Mans race. Good Luck Audi!
